Alan is a traditional Irish fiddler based in Madison, Wisconsin. Yes, I'd be happy to play for your wedding, and yes, I've been playing weddings regularly for many years. For more about Alan and Irish music, read this page. To hire me, just send me a quick note at alan@alan-ng.net.
You are welcome to browse the full list of my current repertoire. Below are some samples of my playing some music particularly suitable for wedding ceremonies.
Music which was composed as instrumental "listening music" – not for dancing or singing. Depending on the context (such as prelude vs. processional), I may change the way I play them to be more even and processional-like.
Give Me Your Hand, aka Tabhair Dom Do Lámh (composed by Rory Dall O'Cathain in the 18th century)
Eleanor Plunkett (composed by 16th-century harper Turlough O'Carolan)
When played right, certain hornpipes can be used beautifully in wedding ceremonies. Take for example:
The Good-Natured Man (composed by James Hill in the 19th century)
Here is a list of the cheerier examples of old Irish "slow airs" in my repertoire, suitable for use in a wedding ceremony. "Slow air" means a freeform, solo performance of an old-style (sean nós) Irish song, but using an instrument instead of singing. The texts of these songs are usually in Irish (Gaelic language) – but don't ask me to sing them! =)
The Coolin
Turus go Tír na nÓg (transl. "trip to the land of the fairies")
The Vales of New Direen
Éamonn an Chnuich (transl. "Ned of the hill", a love song)
An Clár Bog Déil (transl. "the bog deal board", a love song)
Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór (transl. "small fairy, great fairy")
Down by the Sally Gardens
The Munster Cloak
Southwind
You might like a waltz sort of feel somewhere in your ceremony, for example ...
Old Time Waltz (an old Irish waltz I learned from famous fiddler James Kelly)
