Dear friends of West Wind,

Apologies for the long silence!

West Wind, a quartet dedicated to the finest in contemporary Irish traditional music, has now firmly established an exciting new sound. Our esteemed cello player, Karen Cornelius, is no longer with the band, but band members Alan Ng, Bob Newton, and Josh Perkins are now joined by the astonishingly gifted flute player Mike Crossley, who is also known to do a mean turn on the banjo, tin whistle, or uillean pipes.

The band continues to interpret a blend of Irish dance music and Irish and Scottish songs on fiddle, flute, octave mandola, guitar, melodeon, banjo, bodhran, and whistle, intercut with Josh’s evocative vocals. Whether fiddle tunes from the old masters or a song from Christy Moore or Dick Gaughan, come down and tap your toes, lift a pint, and listen in.

We continue to perform monthly on first Sundays at the Brocach, 5-7 pm, but this month we happen to have traded spots and will in fact be there this coming Sunday, March 8, to make your supper musically complete.

We hope the thrill of our new sound will compensate you for our year of undercover work!
