Set Dancing at Madison Folk Ball Feb. 2, 2013

Madison's 25th annual Folk Ball Festival will feature two set dance workshops on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Folk Ball events will take place at the UW Memorial Union during the weekend of February 1-3. The first set dance workshop will be in Tripp Commons (2nd floor), 10am-12n, taught by Ed Heffernan from Chicago. The 2nd workshop will be 1-3pm in Great Hall (4th floor), and will feature live music by the Capitol Ceili Band and calling by Ed Heffernan.

Celtic dance enthusiasts Claire Rohr and Bryce Woyak are working to get a group together to study, perfect, and maybe even perform some traditional dances of the Celtic peoples, including Irish, Scottish, Breton, Cornish, Manx, Welsh and other Celtic genres, and they would like to invite you to be a part of this process. NO Set Dancing at the Brocach Sunday Oct. 14

I'm sorry to say that there will be no set dancing at the Brocach Sunday, Oct. 14.

If there is enough interest, we will try to meet on Sunday, Oct. 28. To make this work, eight people need to attend. If you can come, please RSVP to Claire (email & phone above). I understand that 11:00am-1:00pm is not an ideal time, but that is when the Brocach is available. I will teach the Sliabh Luachra set and review the Caledonian and North Kerry if time.

IRISH SOCIAL DANCING at the BROCACH, FALL 2012, Sundays, 11:00am � 1:00pm

If you need transportation to the kickoff party from campus or downtown, please let me know and it can be arranged.

It was brought to my attention that some of you may be having trouble with online registration for the Set Dance Workshop on June 9th. See if these instructions work better:

Go to http://dancefabulousmadison.com/workshops/

From that page click on the pink text that says "reserve your spot today" (do not click the "workshops" tab at the top of this page-it will just keep returning you to the same place)

This will take you to a registration website. DO click on the "workshops" tab from there.
(I know this is confusing, but the website person is a volunteer so cut her some slack...).

You should be able to register from here without any trouble. However, if you have any problems or questions, please contact me at hahakseth@gmail.com.

If all else fails, we can get you registered the day of the workshop!

Just a reminder and clarification here (I think a block of text went missing in my last email...oops! Sorry!).

On Saturday, June 9th, we will have TWO set dance activities in Madison.

1) Set Dance Workshop
Date: June 9, 2012
Time: Noon-4:00pm
Instructor: Tim McAndrew*
Cost: $25.00
Location: Dance Fabulous studio (401 N Lake Street)
Registration & more information regarding the Set Dance Workshop is available on the dance studio website: http://www.dancefabulousmadison.com/workshops
(Registering ahead of time online is appreciated, as it gives us an estimate of how many dancers to expect.)

2) Set Dance Ceili
Date: June 9, 2012
Time: 7:00pm-10:00pm
Caller: Tim McAndrew
Cost: $10.00 for those attending the evening ceili only -OR- $7.00 for folks who register & attend the workshop earlier that day.
Location: Dance Fabulous studio
There is no registration for the set dance ceili. Just show up ready to dance!

*Tim McAndrew comes to us from the Twin Cities. He has been Irish set dancing for a dozen years and has been teaching for about half that time. He has taught at Minnesota Irish Fair, Milwaukee Irish Fest and at workshops throughout the Midwest and Canada. He stresses basic footwork, connection with Irish traditional music and having fun.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Irish Set and Step class. Basics to Battering. Tim will start the class with the basics steps and moves of a traditional Irish set dance and slowly build the class up to learning percussive footwork for that dance (i.e., battering) by the end. This class is designed for both folks new to Irish set dancing as well as experienced set dancers. There is something for everyone and they are a lot of fun.
